BAC Water — USP-Grade Bacteriostatic Water

BAC Water is USP-grade bacteriostatic water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. It is used as a diluent for reconstituting lyophilized research compounds in laboratory settings. This sterile, non-pyrogenic aqueous solution meets United States Pharmacopeia standards for purity and sterility, making it the standard solvent for peptide reconstitution in research protocols.

Bacteriostatic water differs from sterile water for injection in that the benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits microbial growth, allowing multi-use access over a 28-day period after initial puncture. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol concentration is the established pharmaceutical standard, providing effective preservation without interfering with the stability or activity of reconstituted research compounds.

AXOM BAC Water is manufactured under strict cGMP-equivalent protocols and undergoes 0.22μm membrane filtration to ensure sterility. Available in 3mL and 10mL vial formats for research use only.

USP Grade

Meets United States Pharmacopeia standards for purity, sterility, and endotoxin levels. Manufactured under cGMP-equivalent protocols with full quality documentation.

Multi-Use Preservation

0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits microbial growth, enabling repeated aseptic access over a 28-day period after initial vial puncture — the pharmaceutical industry standard.

Sterile Filtration

Processed through 0.22μm membrane filtration for verified sterility. Non-pyrogenic and particle-free, suitable for reconstituting sensitive lyophilized research compounds.

Bacteriostatic Water for Injection as a Diluent in Parenteral Drug Reconstitution: A Review of Compatibility and Stability
Trissel LA • American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 2003 • DOI: 10.1093/ajhp/60.suppl_1.S11

Comprehensive review of bacteriostatic water compatibility with reconstituted pharmaceutical compounds. Documented the stability profiles of benzyl alcohol-preserved diluents across multiple drug classes, establishing standard protocols for reconstitution timing, storage conditions, and multi-use vial access in pharmacy practice.

Antimicrobial Effectiveness of Benzyl Alcohol as a Preservative in Parenteral Solutions
Dey BP, et al. • Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1999 • DOI: 10.1021/js980425p

Evaluated the antimicrobial efficacy of benzyl alcohol at concentrations of 0.9–2.0% against USP challenge organisms. Demonstrated that 0.9% benzyl alcohol meets USP antimicrobial effectiveness testing criteria, supporting its use as the standard preservative concentration in multi-dose parenteral formulations.

USP <797> Pharmaceutical Compounding — Sterile Preparations: Implications for Reconstitution and Beyond-Use Dating
Allen LV Jr • International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding, 2008

Analysis of USP Chapter 797 guidelines governing the reconstitution of sterile preparations, including the role of bacteriostatic water in establishing beyond-use dating for multi-dose vials. Detailed the 28-day use period standard for preserved reconstituted preparations stored under controlled room temperature conditions.

Usage Protocol

BAC Water is supplied as a ready-to-use sterile diluent for reconstituting lyophilized research compounds. Follow standard aseptic technique for all laboratory procedures.

  • Swab the vial stopper with an alcohol wipe before each access
  • Use a sterile syringe and needle for withdrawal
  • Add BAC Water slowly along the vial wall of the lyophilized compound
  • Gently swirl the target vial — do not shake or vortex
  • Allow the reconstituted solution to stand until fully dissolved
  • Reconstituted solution should appear clear and colorless

Storage Conditions

  • Unopened: Store at controlled room temperature (15–25°C). Protect from light and freezing.
  • After opening: Maintain at room temperature. Use within 28 days of initial puncture per USP guidelines.
  • Do not use if solution appears cloudy, discolored, or contains particulate matter.
  • Do not use beyond the labeled expiration date.

Shipping

All orders ship within the continental United States via USPS or UPS. BAC Water is shipped at ambient temperature and is stable during transit. Free shipping on orders over $250.
